«HARAKAS» ROUTE No 3
A HISTORIC SITE / SYMBOL OF PATRIOTISM AND FREEDOM
TOTAL ROUTE LENGTH 1,5km
A route that leads to the hideout named “HARAKAS” where the abducted General Kreipe from Germany was hidden by the abductors for 2 nights (7th & 8th of May, 1944). Apart from historical interest, the route covered by dense vegetation and the wild beauty of the mountains that surround it, is a good chance of escape for everybody, due to short distance (1 km) and easy access
PS: HARAKAS means a huge and towering rock
(HOW TO GET THERE)
After having enjoyed the traditional Greek coffee with the rustic full breakfast of Ms Maria you can cool and fill your flasks with the crystal clear waters of the water spring which is located just beside the “PATSOS” traditional tavern
Then we follow the uphill paved road which touches the PATSOS traditional tavern for 50 m (2)
There, we turn right following the concrete road for 40 m (3),
Then, we turn left following the uphill concrete road for about 200m where we see
a big closed water tank on the right and 50 m further a sheepfold on the left.
Continuing the uphill dirt road for about 100 (4) we see a shrine on the left where two roads are joined (Here you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view)…
We follow the left uphill concrete and dirt road for 150 m (5) until we also meet two roads joined. We continue to the left downhill concrete and then the dirt road for 200m (6) where we see a fence on the right.
After opening it (fence), we follow the dirt road – path for 50m until a fig tree where we turn left .At this point go straight reaching the walnuts trees just before the entrance of the hideout (not so visible due to dense vegetation so we must kneel down to see the entrance: a tree trunk parallel to the ground where we have to go under it and just opposite us we see the rock – HARAKAS (7)
NOTE: Ending our visit to HARAKAS we return to the fence, point (6) and follow the downhill concrete road for 200m , until we meet the chapel of St. Konstantinos and Eleni(8). After enjoying the wild natural beauty and all our senses are stimulated end up at Mrs Maria’s to continue the dream of delicious traditional dishes including fresh vegetables, meat, eggs, extra virgin olive oil, all organic and all locally produced in the family fields
